Saddex retired to stud

DUAL Group 1 winner Saddex has been retired to stand at Gestüt Westerberg, near Frankfurt in Germany.

He replaces Auenadler, the sire of Group 2 winner Raffelberger and KarlBurke's useful handicapper Raptor, who died at the stud earlier this year.

A five-year-old son of Sadler's Wells bred by the Niarchos family, Saddex is out of Remote Romance, a close relation of Cheveley Park Stakes runner-up Imperfect Circle and a half-sister to Group/Grade 1 winners Denon and Chimes Of Freedom.

He was trained by Peter Rau to win seven of his 15 career starts for owner Stall Avena, including a Group 1 double in the Rheinland-Pokal over 1m4f at Cologne at four, and the Premio Presidento della Repubblica over 1m2f in Rome this year.

His other victories included two Listed races at three and a Group 2 double in the Gerling-Preis and the Grand Prix de Chantilly at four.

Westerberg has announced a fee of €5,000 for Saddex in his first year at stud.
