Galileo relation Tertullian takes limelight

RUSSIAN Tango maintained the recent good run of Tertullian, a close relation to Galileo, when running out the length and a quarter winner of the Group 3 Westminster Preis der Deutschen Einheit at Hoppegarten on Monday.

The four-year-old is one of four stakes winners by Gestut Schlenderhan resident Tertullian this season alongside Diatribe, Illo and Mawingo, and one of 11 overall. Tertullian's roll of honour includes two German 2,000 Guineas scorers in Aviso (2007) and Irian (2009).

Tertullian was a five-time Group 3 winner in Germany but owes much of his appeal at stud due to an exceptional pedigree: by Miswaki, he is a grandson of Allegretta and therefore bred along similar lines to Arc heroine Urban Sea, dam of Galileoand Sea The Stars among others.

Bred in Germany by Gestut Idee, Russian Tango is the only winner from four foals out of Russian Samba, a 1m2f Listed winner at Frankfurt in 2003. The daughter of Laroche is a half-sister to the Listed-placed Malcheek and from the further family of German Group 3 winners Romana and Romano.
