Iffraaj: the son of Zafonic has amassed an impressive tally of winners

Freshman sire Iffraaj reaches 30 winners

DOMINANT first-season sire Iffraaj had his 30th individual winner on Friday, reaching the milestone faster than last year's leading first-season sire by winners, Dubawi, and the current record holder for first-crop winners, Invincible Spirit.

The Darley sire, who stood at Kildangan Stud for €6,000 this year, is one of just six stallions to have had 30 individuals in their first season with runners, and is closing in on Invincible Spirit's record of 35.

His latest winner is Rudyard, trained by John Hammond, who won convincingly at Marseille-Borely. Iffraaj's first winner came on May 17, when Nasharra took a 5f maiden stakes at Leicester.

Nine of Iffraaj's runners have won at least twice, and they include Wootton Bassett, the Richard Fahey-trained colt who won his second sales race on Thursday in the Weatherbys Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes at Doncaster.

Iffraaj's half-brother by Dubai Destination, Makeynn, brokehis maiden on his second start on Friday night, easily taking an auction maiden at Wolverhampton. He is trained by Saeed Bin Suroor for Godolphin.
