Precious Gem sparkles for Sadler's Wells

Ballymacoll Stud Celebrating 50 Years International Stakes (Group 3), Curragh, 1m2f

PRECIOUS GEM (Sadler's Wells - Ruby by Danehill)

Breeder: J. Crowley et al

PRECIOUS GEM became the latest in an extraordinarily long line of Group winners by Coolmore's retired legendary sire Sadler's Wells with a convincing one-and-three-quarter length victory in the International Stakes.

Trainer Dermot Weld

Dermot Weld: winning trainer

The four-year-old filly was unraced until last May and it took three starts for her to break her maiden, but she has proved very progressive since, winning a valuable 1m4f handicap at Leopardstown in May and her first stakes success, the Listed Martin Molny Stakes, at Limerick earlier this month.

Precious Gem is out of the unraced Danehill mare Ruby, a sisterto outstanding miler Rock Of Gibraltar. She was bought by her trainer Dermot Weld for €230,000 at the 2007 Goffs Million yearling sale.

The cross of Sadler's Wells over Danehill - two of Coolmore's best sires and so ubiquitous in pedigrees - also produced last month's Lingfield Derby Trial scorer Bullet Train.

Runner-up to Precious Gem in the International Stakes was Shintoh, a Giant's Causeway half-brother to Ivan Denisovich and War Chant.
