Gowran Park: Rubi shines light for Network

Red Mills Chase (Grade 2), 2m4f, 5yo+

RUBI LIGHT (6 g Network - Genny Lights by Lights Out)

Breeder: Patrick Vagne and Mme Valerie Vagne in France

GERMAN Group 2 winner Network is the sire of only 136 registered foals from five crops aged four and above (the majority of which are AQPS) but that hasn't stopped him from producing two very able jumpers in Saturday scorers Rubi Light and Sprinter Sacre.

Network, a son of Monsun, is also the sire of the top-class French chaser Rubi Ball, who won the Grade 1 Prix La Haye Jousselin at Auteuil last November, and Craon Listed jumps winner Quecy De Chadzeau.

Network stands under the French National Stud banner at the Centre Technique Treban for €2,000.

Rubi Light is the best of two winners out of the placed Genny Lights, a Lights Out half-sister to two winners over jumps in France.

Later in the afternoon at Ascot, another representative, Sprinter Sacre, put in an impressive display to win the 2m novices hurdle.

The French-bred five-year-old is the fourth winner out of Fatima III, a placed daughter of Bayolidaan.

Red Mills Trial Hurdle (Grade 2), 2m, 4yo+

DUNGUIB (8 g Presenting - Edermine Berry by Durgham)

Breeder: Liam Meade in Ireland

PRESENTING'S chances of overhauling King's Theatre at the head of the leading jumps sires' list were given a boost on Saturday by the successful return of Dunguib in the Red Mills Trial Hurdle.

The eight-year-old gelding is likely to line up in the Champion Hurdle, where he will face a leading representative of King's Theatre in Menorah.

Former champion sire Presenting currently sits in second on the sires' list behind King's Theatre, whose own title chances were further strengthenedby the victory of Riverside Theatre in Saturday's Betfair Ascot Chase.

Dunguib is the only winner out of hurdles scorer Edermine Berry, a half-sister to two minor winners over jumps. The daughter of Durgam produced a dead foal by Vinnie Roe in 2009 and was barren to Presenting in 2010.
