Coolmore go to $1.85 million for Selection

COOLMORE  went to $1.85 million to secure multiple grade 1 winner Society Selection at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

“Obviously we liked her a lot,” said Aisling Duignan, director of sales for Coolmore. “She’s got a great pedigree. She had all the criteria really: a great race filly with a great pedigree.”

Society Selection, a nine-year-old Coronado's Quest mare, won three grade 1 contests during her career: the Frizette, Alabama, and Test Stakes. Her oldest foal is a winning 3-year-old Giant’s Causeway filly named Superior Selection.

Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency as part of the Irving Cowan dispersal, Society Selection was offered in foal to Medaglia d’Oro.

I thought it was an awesome sale,” said Duncan Taylor of Taylor Made Sales. “You don’t find many racemares like her. There really hasn’t been much in past years to compare her to that are that age that sold. She was definitely something special.”

Society Selection is out of the Grade 3 winning Dixieland Band mare Love That Jazz. Duignan said no decision has been made about whether she will stay in the United States or be sent to Europe.

Grade 2 winner Royale Michele got the auction off to a fast start when she sold for $700,000.

John Moynihan bought the five-year-old Elusive Quality mare on behalf of Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Stables.

“I thought it was a very good buy,” said Moynihan. “If she reproduces what she is physically, she will have really pretty foals. We like those good looking Elusive Quality mares that can run.”

Royale Michele, who won the 2009 Barbara Fritchie Handicap, is carrying her first foal. She was bred to Unbridled's Song.
Taylor Made Sales Agency consigned the bay mare, who is out of the stakes-placed Groovy mare Michele Royale.
