Debut win for expensive DBS breeze-up buy

ROYAL BAJAN, the third-top lot as last year's DBS breeze-up up Doncaster, made winning debut on Thursday in the Enjoy The Party Pack Group Offer Maiden Stakes at Wolverhampton.

The son of Speightstown, trained by James Given, was a fantastic pinhook for Jim McCartan's Gaybrook Lodge Stud, who paid $18,000 for him at the Keeneland September sale. The following April, he was knocked down to Peter Swann for £125,000.

He is the first foal of Crown You, a half-sister to US Grade 2 winner Best Of Luck and out of Grade 2-winning Crowned.

Speightstown has sired three US Grade 1 winners, with Lord Shanakill his sole top-level winner in Europe, taking the Prix Jean Prat.

He stands for $50,000 at WinStar Farm, Kentucky. His oldest crop, which includes Lord Shanakill,is five years old.
