Highflyers few and far between on day two

HIGH-PRICED lots were thin on the ground through the first 220 lots to go through the ring  in the second session of the Keeneland January Sale, although the mare Rose Of Killarney did manage to warm up the atmosphere for a short while.

Offered by Warrendale Sale, the daughter of Proud Citizen is a half-sister to Laragh, who finished third in last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Yet to be covered, she was purchased  by Eaton Sales for $290,000.

Our New Empire also topped the $200,000 barrier when bought by Brittlyn Farm and Evelyn Benoit for $250,000. By the emerging young Juddmonte sire Empire Maker, the four-year-old was unplaced from one run at three.

She was sold in foal to Mr Greeley by Gainesway Farms. She is out of the three-time Grade 1 winner Fara's Team and is a half-sister to Breeders' Cup Classic winner Concern and the Grade 3 winner Tennis Lady.
