Smart Rock Of Rochelle to stud in South Africa

ROCK Of Rochelle, a Group 3 winner for Dermot Weld, has been retired to stand at David Hepburn Brown's Hemel N'Aarde Stud near Cape Town in South Africa.

The son of Rock Of Gibraltar retires as the winner of three of 17 starts and nearly £100,000 in prize-money.

Rock Of Rochelle was a smart two-year-old for Dermot Weld, winning two races including the Listed Blenheim Stakes at the Curragh. Over the next two seasons he developed into a useful sprinter, taking the Group 3 Renaissance Stakes and filling the frame in two renewals of the Group 3 Badener Sprint Cup.

A three-parts brother to Champagne Stakes winner Silent Times, Rock Of Rochelle is out of a sister to the 2009 American leading first-crop sire Offlee Wild and from the immediate family of Dynaformer.

Rock Of Rochelle joins a roster of six stallions at Hemel N'Aarde including another former Dermot Weld inmate, Group 3 winner Latino Magic.
