Kandahar Run to stand at Gestüt Ammerland
KANDAHAR RUN, winner of the Listed Newmarket Stakes for Henry Cecil in 2008, will take up stud duties at his owners' Gestüt Ammerland near Munich in Germany this year.
The son of Rock Of Gibraltar was bred by Britton House Stud out of Kenmist, a Group 3-placed daughter of Kenmare, making him a three-parts brother to Prix du Moulin heroine Grey Lilas.
Gestüt Ammerland, who owned Grey Lilas, purchased Kandahar Run through agent Crispin de Moubray for 50,000gns.
He was an impressive winner of the Houghton Conditions Stakes at two and in the following season he finished second in the Fielden Stakes and won the Newmarket Stakes to mark himself down as a leading contender for the Derby.
He disappointed when 14th in the Epsom blue riband but a month later finished a creditable fifth, beaten just under three lengths, behind Tamayuz in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat on his final career start.
A fee of €500 has been set for Kandahar Run, who will stand at Ammerland alongside Boreal and JavaGold. Black-type mares and black-type producers are eligible for a free nomination.
