Dam of Speciosa scanned in foal to Mount Nelson

NEWSELL Park Stud's dual Group 1 winner Mount Nelson has had eight of his first mares successfully scanned in foal.

They include the Sky Classic mare Specifically, a half-sister to Pride and dam of 2006 1,000 Guineas heroine Speciosa, and the Ela-Mana-Mou mare Entente Cordiale, dam of last season's King Stand Stakes winner Equiano.

Also tested in foal is Honorlina, a winning sister to Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Vahorimix who was purchased by Newsells Park Stud for €200,000 at last year's Arqana December Sale.

"Mount Nelson has attracted a strong book of mares and we are very grateful for the support breeders have given him in these difficult economic circumstances. He has a book in excess of 100 mares and we are supporting him strongly ourselves," said Julian Dollar, general manager of Newsells Park Stud.

"Specifically is a special mare and we really thought she suited Mount Nelson physically. Since Mount Nelson is bred on the same successful Danehill - Sharpen Up sire cross as Danehill Dancer, sire of Speciosa, it was an obvious mating."

Mount Nelson retired to stud as the winner of three races including the Criterium International and Eclipse Stakes. The son of Rock Of Gibraltar, who is out of the Group 2 winner Independence and from the family of Derby winner Reference Point, stands for £10,000.
