Uruguay champion sire Robin Des Pins dead

After starting his career at Darby Dan Farm in Kentucky, Robin Des Pins stood at Uruguay's leading breeding operation Haras Don Alfredo, where he sired champion three-year-old filly La Signora, 2004 champion juvenile filly Vercelli and this season's Group 1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club winner Achiles.

He currently ranks second by earnings in the general sire standings.

Robin Des Pins was trained by Francois Boutin in France where he won four races over 5-7f topped by a success at Group 3 level. He wasalso successful in the Group 2 Jacobs Goldene Peitsche and Group 3 Holsten Trophy in Germany, and ran second in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket.

Robin Des Pins was out of the Key To The Mint mare Rare Mint. He was a brother to the Group 2-placed Robin Des Bois, himself the sire of multiple Grade 1-winning Argentine-bred Gentleman, and a half-brother to black-type winners Ahkaam, Mystery Rays and Jubal Dollar.
