Rip Van Winkle to shuttle to New Zealand

WINDSOR Park Stud in New Zealand has secured the services of Rip Van Winkle for the southern hemisphere season. The triple Group 1 winner, who is standing his first season at Coolmore in Ireland, will become the second son of Galileo to stand in New Zealand followingminor winner Castelli Park.

Windsor Park Stud launched the Australasian stud career of Rip Van Winkle's stud mate High Chaparral, who stood the past season for Coolmore in Australia for A$88,000 following the emergence of four Group 1winners from his first southern hemisphere crop. The Cambridge-based stud currently stands Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Mastercraftsman and French juvenile Group 1 winner Thewayyouare on behalf of Coolmore.

Stud owner Nelson Schick said: "It's a privilege to be able to offer Australasian breeders a stallion of this calibre. When you analyse Rip Van Winkle, you understand how special he is to have consistently achieved such a high level of performance."

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Rip Van Winkle competed with the best of his generation during three seasons, winning five of 14 starts including the Juddmonte International, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Sussex Stakes.

His fee will be announced shortly. In support of the victims of the Christchurch earthquake disaster, proceeds from nominations to the three Coolmore stallions standing at Windsor Park will go towards the industry relief fundraiser being held by the Auckland Racing Club.
