RIO De La Plata, one of 12 Group/Grade 1 winners by Three Chimneys Farm's retired stallion Rahy, made it three out of five for the season at York on Friday when repelling the late challenge of Rainbow Peak in the Strensall Stakes.

The five-year-old horse represents a fusion of influences from North and South America. His sire, Rahy, is well known throughout Europe and the US thanks to runners such as Fantastic Light, Noverre and Serena's Song while his dam, Express Way, hails from a high-class family in Argentina.

Prior to foaling Rio De La Plata, the mare had already worked with Blushing Groom blood by producing Group 1 winner El Expresivo, a son of Candy Stripes.

Further back it is the family of Argentinean Group 1 winners Escenografo and Malambo Dancer.

John Ferguson purchased Rio De La Plata for 170,000gns at the 2007 Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale.
