First Group 1 winner
for Exceed And Excel

REWARD FOR EFFORT became the first Group 1 winner for Darley sire Exceed And Excel when successful in the A$1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday. The stallion was also sire of the third home, the Swettenham Stud-bred filly Maka Ena, who was racing in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed.

It was only a third racecourse start for Reward For Effort, who is trained by Peter Moody, but he has yet to finish out of the frame having won aListed race on his racecourse debut before finishing second in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude earlier in February.

Bred by David Moodie's Contract Racing in Victoria, Reward For Effort is out of the multiple Listed winner Miss Prospect, by Rory's Jester, and is a half-brother to Group1 runner-up Consular.

Moody and Dean Watt of owner Dynamic Syndications bought the colt for A$190,000 at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

In Europe, Exceed And Excel has sired a Group 2 winner in the shape of the Lowther Stakes winner Infamous Angel, as well as Listed race winners and Group performers including Mrs Kipling, Flashmans Papers, Spin Cycle and Excellerator.

He stands at £12,000 for 2009 and his progeny averaged 33,660gns at the 2008 yearling sales.
