Retired Solemia set for date with Dubawi

THIS year's surprise Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Solemia has been retired after finishing a lacklustre 13th of 17 in Sunday's Japan Cup.

The four-year-old filly is set for a trip to Darley's Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket next year.

"That was Solemia's last race," Pierre-Yves Bureau, the racing manager for her owner-breeders the Wertheimer brothers, told the French press. "She will now go to stud and she will visit Dubawi."

Solemia represents Wertheimer breeding on the top and bottom of her pedigree.

She is by Poliglote, a Wertheimer-bred and owned son of Sadler's Wells who won the Criterium de Saint-Cloud, and out of Prix Cleopatre winner Brooklyn's Dance, a daughter of Shirley Heights who has also produced the Group 1 performers Prospect Park and Prospect Wells.

Dubawi has worked well with Solemia's family before. He is the sire of her Classic-winning relation Makfi.

Trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias, Solemia won five races including the Prix Corrida, but undoubtedly the highlight of her career was her determined head victory over Japanese star Orfevre in last month's Arc.
