Ekraar rested from shuttling in 2010

GRAN Premio del Jockey Club winner Ekraar will remain at stud in New Zealand instead of returning to Italy to stand at Societa Allevamento Besnate this year.

The Shadwell-owned son of Red Ransom is earning a big reputation in New Zealand, where he shuttles to Stoney Bridge Stud at Waikato.

Last month he was represented by his first Group 1 winner when his daughter Ekstreme landed the Dixon & Dunlop Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham, while his other southern-hemisphere star performer is New Zealand 2,000 Guineas third Clapton.

Ekraar, who is out of Breeders' Cup Distaff heroine Sacahuista, stood at a fee of NZ$10,000 (£4,495 / €5,067) for the 2009 southern-hemisphere breeding season.
