Stronach recives record eighth Eclipse Award
FRANK Stronach's Adena Springs received a record eighth Eclipse Award as leading breeder at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in California on Monday following another exceptional season on the racetrack.
Stronach won the award under his own name in 2000 while Adena Springs was honoured with an unprecedented five straight Eclipse Awards in 2004-2008 and again in 2010.
Stronach fought off Brereton C. Jones, the owner of Airdrie Stud in Kentucky and breeder of top-class filly Summer Soiree, and Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey (who walked away with the leading owner Eclipse Award), the owners of Ramsey Farm and leading young stallion Kitten's Joy, to secure this year's award.
Adena Springs bred 20 stakes winners in 2011 led by the dual Grade 1 winner Game On Dude, a son of the operation's flagship stallion Awesome Again. Adena Springs also bred the Grade 1-placed Stately Victory, Bay To Bay, Indulgence, Bourbon Bay and Judy The Beauty.
In all during 2011, horses bred by Adena Springs won 455 races and $14,641,413, more than twice the amount won by their nearest competitor.
Stronach established Adena Springs near Versailles in Kentucky in 1989. Today, the Kentucky operation is located near Paris, Kentucky, while a number of his stallions are also based in Canada, California, and New York.
Last week, it was announced that that The Stronach Group has agreed to join Daily Racing Form and Breeders' Cup as a presenting sponsor of the Eclipse Awards. As a result, the 2013 and 2014 Eclipse Awards will be held at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida, in the Sport of Kings Theatre.
