Raven's Pass off the mark at first attempt

DESPITE showing signs of greenness, Lovely Pass justified favouritism in impressive style to take the 6f maiden at Lingfield on Saturday and become the first winner for her sire, Raven's Pass.

The Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained filly jinked at the start, jumped a path and then veered out into the centre of the course under Silvestre de Sousa before quickening clear of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained newcomer Desert Sunrise. The eventual winning margin was two-and-a-quarter lengths.

Lovely Pass was the first runner for her sire, the dual Group 1 scorer Raven's Pass. Trained by John Gosden, Raven's Pass was the seven length winner of Solario Stakes at two and developed into a top-class 1m - 1m2f performer the following year with victories in the Breeders' Cup Classic - over Henrythenavigator and Curlin - and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes to his name.

The son of Elusive Quality has approximately 80 two-year-olds bred off a €40,000 fee to represent him this year, and is standing the current season at Kildangan Stud for €22,500.

Bred by Stowell Park Stud, Lovely Pass is a half-sister to two winners and out of the Group 2 (then) Falmouth Stakes heroine Macadamia. In turn, she is a Classic Cliche daughter of Stowell Park's highly successful mare Cashew, also the dam of this season's Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes winner Captivator.

Lovely Pass was unsold at 65,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale. Her victory secured her owner, Godolphin, a £10,000 Racing Post Yearling Bonus.
