French Listed win for daughter of Cape Cross

THE Prix Petite Etoile, a 1m1½f Listed race for three-year-old fillies run on Deauville's All-Weather surface, waswon today by Rainbow Crossing, a daughter of Cape Cross.

Bred by Skymarc Farm and Castlemartin Stud, Rainbow Crossing is out of the Rainbows For Life mare Rainbows For All, who beat subsequent Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Yesterday to win the Group 3 Debutante Stakes at The Curragh at two.

She started her career in Ireland, where she was trained by Kevin Prendergast, but was transferred to France at the beginning of this year. Francois Rohaut now trains her for Skymarc Farm.

This was a first black-type win for Rainbow Crossing, who had previously finished second and third in Listed races this year.

Cape Cross, who will stand at Darley's Kildangan Stud at a fee of €35,000 in 2009, has had a particularly good year with his French-trained runners, with Sabana Perdida, Treat Gently and Russian Cross all scoring in Group 2 races.

The sole British challenger in the Prix Petite Etoile was the Ralph Beckett-trained Tactful, a daughter of Intikhab who was the easy winner of a handicap on her previous start. She ran on to finish fifth, but was subsequently disqualified and placed seventh.
