Assertive will replace his sire Bold Edge at Throckmorton Court StudPICTURE: Edward Whitaker
Assertive retired to stud
ASSERTIVE, this year's Duke of York Stakes winner, has been retired from racing and will stand at Peter and Simon Balding's Throckmorton Court Stud in Worcestershire.
The Richard Hannon-trained five-year-old will attempt to fill the void left by his deceased sire Bold Edge, who had stood at Throckmorton Court since 2005.
Assertive won 6f stakes races at two, three, four and five. This year, as well as winning the Duke of York Stakes, he also finished a neck second to African Rose in the Haydock Sprint Cup.
Bred by his owner Lady Whent, he is out of the Distant Relative mare Tart And A Half, making him a half-brother to four-time Listed stakes winner Boogie Street.
His fee has been set at £4,000.
Peter Balding said: "We are just thrilled to welcome such a high-class Group-winning sprinter with exceptional looks and soundness to match. He is a deep liver chestnut standing 16hh, and we can't wait to start showing him off."
