NEWSELLS PARK Stud first-season sire Mount Nelson got his first stakes winner on the board on Saturday when his daughter Purr Along landed the Prix du Calvados at Deauville.

Purr Along is one of five winners for Mount Nelson, a son of crack miler Rock Of Gibraltar and Sun Chariot Stakes heroine Independence who won the Criterium International at two and the Eclipse at four.

Mount Nelson is also the sire of Ninjago, who finished third in Saturday's Listed Denford Stud Stakes behind the Lawman filly Just The Judge.

Purr Along was bred by Moyns Park Estate and Stud out of the winning Mountain Cat mare Purring, making her a half-sister to Listed-placed Lady Francesca and multiple winners Cat O'Nine Tails and Jeer.

Purring is a half-sister to Falmouth Stakes winner Ronda, later dam of high-class US 7f-1m performer Istan, and to Listed Esher Stakes winner Silver Gilt.

Purring is a grandaughter of Princess Elizabeth Stakes winner Memory Lane, a sister to the great Mill Reef.

Muir bought Purr Along from the Moyns Park Stud consignment for 11,500gns at Book 2 of last year's Tattersalls October yearling sale.
