Punchestown: major double for Pistolet Bleu Champion Chase (Grade 1), 2m

SIZING EUROPE (10 g Pistolet Bleu - Jennie Dun)

Bred by Mrs Angela Bracken in Ireland

SIZING Europe provided the second leg of a major Punchestown double for his short-lived sire Pistolet Bleu, who was also responsible for the 2m handicap hurdle winner Snap Tie.

Pistolet Bleu, winner of the Criterium de Saint-Cloud and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, had finished covering his first Irish book as a Coolmore jumps stallion when he suffered from colic and died aged 13.

The son of Top Ville's previous crops sired in France yielded Triumph Hurdle winner Katarino and Christmas Hurdle scorer Geos.

His sole Irish-sired crop - now ten-year-olds - also includes Grade 2-winning hurdler I'msingingtheblues and Jewson Novices' Handicap Chase winner Copper Bleu.

Sizing Europe was bred by Angela Bracken out of the unraced Mandalus mare Jennie Dun. His half-brother The Spoonplayer, also trained by Henry de Bromhead, has won four races.

Bracken sold Sizing Europe as a foal for €9,000 at the 2002 Tattersalls Ireland November sale.

SIR DES CHAMPS (6 g Robin des Champs - Liste EnTete by Video Rock)

Bred by Dominique Clayeux in France

Sir Des Champs becomes the fifth Grade 1 winner by Glenview Stud's Robin Des Champs, who has served trainer Willie Mullins well as the sire of his outstanding hurdler Quevega as well as Sous Les Cieux, winner of this season's Royal Bond Novice Hurdle. Both Quevega and Sous Les Cieux are set to take their chance at Punchestown later this week.

Robin des Champs - a Garde Royalehalf-brother to Anngrove Stud stallion Robin Des Pres - stood his first season in Ireland at Glenview Stud in 2009. He is standing for €5,000 this year.

Sir Des Champs is the first foal out of French Flat winner Liste En Tete, whose second foal is minor Flat winner Unicite. It is the further family of 1996 Pendil Novices' Chase winner Draborgie.

ALDERWOOD (8 g Alderbrook - Clamit Falls by Homo Sapien)

Bred by Noel Collins in Ireland

Alderwood becomes the second Grade 1 winner of the season for the 1995 Champion Hurdle hero Alderbrook following For Non Stop, winner of the Grade 1 Scilly Isle Novices' Chase at Newbury. Unfortunately, this run of success has come too late for breeders as the son of Ardross died at Anngrove Stud in 2007.

A €19,000 purchase by trainer Thomas Mullins at the 2009 Goffs Land Rover Sale, Alderwood is the only winner out of Clamit Falls, a unraced half-sister to high-class French jumper Hill Street.
