at Keeneland

RESULTS are still on the up at the Keeneland September Sale and the sale of two fillies for $110,000 each highlighted Thursday’s session. The average and the median for the session both increased by over 50 per cent.

Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs bought the day’s top three highest-priced yearlings, paying $110,000 for a filly by Proud Citizen and a filly by Midnight Lute.

The Proud Citizen filly, consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent for Tall Oaks Farm, is the first foal from the stakes-winning Horse Chestnut mare In Return. Warrendale also consigned the Midnight Lute filly, who is from the family of Group 3 winner Putra and stakes winner My Main Starr.

Adena Springs went to $80,000 to acquire an E Dubai colt from Brandywine Farm. The colt is a brother to multiple graded stakes winner Aggie Engineer.

Trade continued to be active on Thursday as 291 horses sold for $5,131,100, an increase of 62.6 per cent from 2010 when 278 horses brought $3,155,000. The average of $17,633 was up 55.3 per cent from last year’s $11,349, while the median rose 50 per cent to $12,000 compared to $8,000 in 2010.

Through 11 days, Keeneland hassold a total 2,539 horses for $220,318,600, up 12.3 per cent over last year’s $196,036,100.  Average price of $86,774 increased 17.9 per cent over the $73,560 recorded in 2010. The median of $40,000 rose 25 per cent from $32,000.
