Champion Proud Spell produces first foal

PROUD SPELL, winner of the 2008 Eclipse award as champion three-year-old filly in North America, produced her first foal on Monday at Airdrie Stud in Kentucky.

The new arrival is a filly by Santa Anita Derby winner Indian Charlie, whose previous progeny includes Grade 1 winners Fleet Indian, Indian Blessing and Pampered Princess.

Proud Spell, a five-year-old daughter of Proud Citizen, captured two top-flight races for her owner-breeder Brereton C. Jones. She won the Kentucky Oaks by five lengths from Little Belle and beat runner-up Music Note by a head in the Alabama Stakes.

The mare will be bred to Darley sire Medaglia D'Oro, sire of Rachel Alexandra, this spring.
