Chester Vase winner for sire Beat Hollow

BEAT Hollow's son Ted Spread, trained by Mark Tompkins and ridden by Darryll Holland, battled on bravely to hold off Icon Dream in the Group 3 MBNA Chester Vase on Thursday.

The colt was bred by Pollards Stables and holds entries in the Dante, Derby and King Edward VII Stakes, but was quoted at prices as big as 50-1 for the Epsom classic.

His dam, Highbrook, is by Alphabatim and won over 1m2f to 1m5f at a fair level and twice over hurdles. Her five previous foals include two 6f juvenile winners, one of which scored over 1m1f to 1m4f at four and five

Beat Hollow's best produce to date include Proportional, winner of the Prix Marcel Boussac and another Group-winning juvenile filly, Charlotte O Fraise.
