Derby hero Motivator sires his first winner

PROMPTER became the first winner for 2005 Derby hero and freshman sire Motivator when making all the running to comfortably land the 7f EBF Maiden Stakes that opened today's card at Chester.

The colt, who had been beaten a head on his debut at Ascot last month, shares the same connections as Motivator, as he runs in the colours of the Royal Ascot Racing Club and is trained by Michael Bell.

Prompter is the second foal out of the Listed-placed Efisio mare Penny Cross, a half-sister to Celebration Mile winner Priors Lodge, and was purchasedby John Warren for 70,000gns at Book 2 of last year's Tattersalls October sale.

He holds entries for the DFS Champagne Stakes, the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, and Investec Derby.

A son of Montjeu, Motivator was retired to the Royal Studs at the end of his three-year-old season, during which he landed the Dante Stakes and Derby, and finished runner-up to Oratorio in the Eclipse and Irish Champion Stakes.

In his first season he covered 79 mares,a reduced number due to a back injury caused when slipping in the paddock in the late spring. Ten of his first-crop two-year-olds have raced to date, with seven having finished placed.

His fee at the Royal Studs this year was £10,000.
