Dam of Grade 1 winner Lite Light dies

PRINTING Press, dam of multipleGrade 1 winner Lite Light, was put down earlier this month at the age of 28. The daughter of In Reality had been pensioned at Waterford-Millford Farm in Kentucky since 2005.

Printing Press was purchased by Smiser West and his wife Kathryn from Paul Mellon as a placed broodmare prospect at auction in New York. She went on to produce 15 foals, of whom 11 ran and eight won.

Her third foal, Lite Light, was by far her best produce, capturing eight races and over $1.2m in earnings. Among her most notable wins were the Coaching Club American Oaks, which she won by seven lengths, the Kentucky Oaks, Santa Anita Oaks and Las Virgenes Stakes.

Although Lite Light’s stud career failed to mirror her record on the track, the daughter of Majestic Light did produce three stakes winners including Saddad, winner of the 2001 Flying Childers’ Stakes.

Printing Press also produced the stakes-placed sprinter Gold Press, a son of Seeking The Gold now at stud in South Africa, and the minor stakes producers Redeemer, Delivery Day and Music Row.
