FIRST LIEUTENANT (5yo ch g Presenting - Fourstargale, by Fourstars Allstar)

Breeder: Mary O'Connor in Ireland

FIRST LIEUTENANT dented the tall reputations of promising Zaidpour and Hidden Cyclone with a hard-fought neck victory in the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown.

Zaidpour, sent off the 1-4 favourite, jumped slightly to the right but ran on well to finish a neck second. Hidden Cyclone was half a length back in third after attempting to make all.

Gigginstown House Stud-owned First Lieutenant is justifying his €255,000 price tag when topping the 2008Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale as a three-year-old.

That sale provided a brilliant pinhooking success for Jimmy Murphy's Redpender Stud in County Kilkenny, who had bought First Lieutenant for €26,000 as a foal at the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt sale.

First Lieutenant is the latest feather in the cap of Glenview Stud's champion jumps sire Presenting.

Gigginstown House Stud has more reeason than most to be thankful for Presenting's prowess, as they also had their colours carried to big-race success by Presenting's sons War Of Attrition and Weapon's Amnesty.

First Lieutenant is the first foal out of the Fourstars Allstar mare Fourstargale, who in turn is out of useful chaser Sea Gale and from the family of Mackeson Gold Cup Chase winner Pawnbroker.
