First foal, first black-type winner for Old Vic mare

Jimmy Barry Memorial Dorans Pride Novice Hurdle (Grade 3), 2m6f, 4yo+
Weapon's Amnesty (Presenting - Victoria Theatre (Old Vic))

VICTORIA THEATRE has got off to the start that every breeder dreams of, especially a NH breeder who whom the view is usually focussed on the long-term, as her first foal is now the winner of  a black-type race.

Weapon's Amnesty did the trick for his dam when successful in the Grade 3 Dorans Pride Novice Hurdle at Limerick on Sunday.

Although he is by leading sire Presenting, his early form did not look as though it would aspire to such heights on just his fifth racecourse start.

He finished second in his first bumper, but then could only come home in fifth next time out. He again finished fifth on his first run over hurdles this November before winning at Gowran Park in December. He admittedly did win then by 28 lengths but it was on heavy ground which can throw upstretched results and, as he is by Presenting, the softer surface suited.

Victoria Theatre, an Old Vic mare, was unraced and is out of an unraced mare Matinee Theatre, however she is a half-sister to the dam of Augherskea, winner of the Grade 1 Champion Bumper at Punchestown as well as the Grade 1 Touche Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown.

Victoria Theatre has a three-year-old gelding by Jimble, who was bought for £15,000 at this December's Brightwells Cheltenham NH breeze-up sale by Philip Rothwell having been purchased by Robert Widger for €18,000 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale in June. She also has a two-year-old colt by Flemensfirth and a yearling filly by Winged Love.

Weapon's Amnesty has made three visits to the sales ring - first as a foal at the Tattersalls Ireland November when he made €11,500, then at the 2006 Doncaster May Sale where he was bought by Mags O'Toole for 24,000gns before a final reappearance at the Doncaster Cheltenham Breeze-up Sale the following autumn where he made 75,000gns. He was purchased again by Mags O'Toole for Gigginstown House Stud, his current owners.
