GERMAN owner-breeder Wolfgang Heymann has purchased Lone Oak Stud near Newmarket.

Heymann, who also owns a stud in Bavaria and has horses in training in Germany with Christian Von Der Recke, Wolfgang Figge and Waldemar Hickst, has renamed the 150-acre farm Great Bradley Oak Stud and plans to run it as a base for a British broodmare band, to board outside mares, and to stand a new stallion.

Heymann – a former managing director of German company Compunet and now the owner of an IT consultancy –attended the Tattersalls December breeding stock sale at Newmarket last week with Jürgen Werthenbach, who will manage Great Bradley Oak Stud.

Two of their purchases, Mac Rhapsody, a Listed-placed daughter of Night Shift, and Finney Hill, a daughter of Mark Esteem descended from Time Charter, will be among the first book of mares for the new stallion Poseidon Adventure, a Group 1-placed son of Sadler's Wells.

Bred by Tower Bloodstock, Poseidon Adventure began his career trained by Aidan O'Brien, for whom he won his maiden at two and a Classic trial at Gowran Park at three.

The horse was subsequently purchased privately by Heymann and transferred to be trained by Wolfgang Figge in Germany, where he won a Listed contest and finished second in two renewals of the Group 1 Preis von Europa.

Poseidon Adventure is available to breeders at a fee of £6,000, with free nominations for mares with a Timeform rating of 70 or over, or with a German rating of 75 or over.

Werthenbach said: "We are delighted to be setting up in Britain, as it is part of Mr Heymann's international concept. We will be supporting Poseidon Adventure with our existing broodmare band and we have been buying new mares for him. We also hope to attract German mares boarding in Britain."

Werthenbach added that a long-term strategy for the stud would be for Heymann to campaign horses in Britain.
