Dubawi off the mark

DUBAWI sired his first winner on Wednesday when Dubai Story was successful in the 6f opener at Marseille-Borely.

The Patrick Khozian-trained colt crossed the line with a length to spare over Alizeh, a son of French first crop sire Super Celebre.

Bred by Julian Ince in France, Dubai Story was a €50,000 yearling purchase by Christophe Ferland at last year's Arqana August Sale.

Out of the 2002 Henkel-Rennen (German 1,000 Guineas) winner Portella, he is a half-brother to the useful dual French winner Classic Port.

As a member of the only crop by the short-lived Dubai Millennium, Dubawi was the subject of above average interest throughout his career.

He didn't disappoint his supporters, taking the National Stakes as a two-year-old, and the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Prix Jacques Le Marois at three. Although ultimately most effective over 1m, he also ran a creditable third to Motivator in the Derby.

The seven-year-old has spent his stud career alternating between Kildangan Stud in Ireland and Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket. He is available this season to British breeders for £15,000.

Dubai Story is one of 116 two-year-olds from his first crop.
