MUCHO MACHO MAN (c Macho Uno - Ponche De Leona by Ponche)

Breeder: John and Carole Rio in US

MUCHO Macho Man entered the Kentucky Derby picture with a one-and-a-half length score over Santiva (Giant's Causeway) in the Risen Star, his first victory at Graded stakes level.

As his name suggests, the Florida-bred is by Frank Stronach's 2000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Macho Uno, who was also represented on Saturday's Fair Grounds card by Pan Zareta Handicap runner-up Smoky Belle. Mucho Macho Man was bred during his sire's time at Adena Springs South in Florida, interestingly when the stallion stood for a career low fee of $12,500.

Macho Uno was transferred to Adena's Kentucky operation to stand alongside his half-brother Awesome Again following the success of his first crop, which contained Grade 1 winners Macho Again and Wicked Style. Mucho Macho Man is the 13th stakes winners by the son of Holy Bull, who is standing this season for $15,000.

Mucho Macho Man is the first winner out of Listed scorer Ponche De Leona, who is the only stakes winner within two generations of her family. The colt's breeders paid $33,000 for the daughter of Ponche (by Two Punch) out of the Adena Springs consignment at the 2007 Keeneland November Sale.
