Poker holds the aces for French-breds in opener

FRENCH-breds enjoyed first strike in the increasingly significant battle for supremacy with their Irish counterparts when Poker De Sivola won the opening race of the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday, the 140th Year of the National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup.

Curiously, the seven-year-old's sire Discover d'Auteuil was trained by Elie Lellouche, who has left a surprisingly significant mark on this Festival as the breeder of Binocular and trainer of Pistolet Bleu, the Champion Hurdler's broodmare sire and the sire of Arkle Chase winner Sizing Europe.

Poker De Sivola's breeder Gilles Trapenard is also responsible for Neptune InvestmentManagement Novices' Hurdle contender Reve De Sivola.

Further details of Poker De Sivola's breeding will appear in tomorrow's Bloodstock Weekly supplement, published in The Irish Racing Post
