A NARROW victory for Plum Pretty saw Medaglia d'Oro sire his second Kentucky Oaks winner following Rachel Alexandra in 2009.

Rachel Alexandra's 20-length romp sealed Medaglia d'Oro's transferal from Stonewall Stallions to Darley's Kentucky base in 2009. However, Plum Pretty's win was a far cry from the dominance of  Rachel Alexandra with the Bob Baffert-trained filly having to resist the late challenge of St John's River (by Include). Zazu, one of two runners in the race by Tapit, took third.

Plum Pretty is the seventh Group/Grade 1 winner by triple Grade 1 winner Medaglia d'Oro, who stands at Darley at Jonabell in Kentucky for $100,000. The son of El Prado, a son of the recently deceased Sadler's Wells, has had a varied stud career to date, starting out at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Kentucky in 2005 for $35,000 before shifting a year later to Stonewall Stallions. He joined Darley's Kentucky roster in June 2009 in a deal which reportedly saw Stonewall receive $40-45 million for a majority interest.

While Medaglia d'Oro has sired top-class colts such as Passion For Gold and Warrior's Reward, Plum Pretty is further proof that he excels as a sire of fillies;  of his 24 stakes winners, 19 are fillies.

Plum Pretty is the second high-profile winner this week to hail from the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale following 1,000 Guineas heroine Blue Bunting. However, unlike that filly, Plum Pretty didn't change hands at auction, instead failing to sell for $100,000.

Bred on the same Medaglia d'Oro - Seattle Slew cross as the Grade 1-placed Al Khali and Grade 2-placed Renda (Medaglia d'Oro's first stakes winner), Plum Pretty is the fourth foal and first stakes winner out of the unplaced Liszy. The daughter of A P Indy is a half-sister to minor stakes winner and former Lane's End sire Gold Case and out of Grade 2 heroine Silent Account.

Further back this is the family of Grade 1 winner Secret Hello and Cornwallis Stakes scorer Hadif.

Liszy has a two-year-old filly by first-season sire Scat Daddy and a yearling filly by Dixie Union. She also has a filly foal by Ghostzapper.
