Plenty to entice British buyers to Summer Sale

THE Arqana Summer Sale kicks off today at 5pm (local time) with the sale of 76 catalogued jumps-bred two and three-year-olds. Arqana's Saint-Cloud complex hosts this mixed auction, which has been extended totwo days due to the volume of horses on offer.

Today's session includes those offered on behalf of the executors of Kauto Star's former owner, the late Claude Cohen (lots 1-22).
Wednesday's session, comprising of Flat-bred two-year-olds and horses in training, starts at midday (local time).
The two and three-year-olds will canter on Saint-Cloud's grass course from 2pm (local time) today.

As well as continuing to attract a strong domestic buying base, this sale is being increasingly targeted by an international audience, in particular British and Irish buyers who have come to view the auction a rich source of jumping talent; the 2008 renewal not only featured the €110,000 sale of subsequent Triumph Hurdle winner Zaynar to Highflyer Bloodstock but also that of David Pipe's high-class staying hurdler Grands Crus to HB Bloodstock for €80,000.

Flat graduates include Amico Mio, who topped last year's horses in training session when selling to Paul Nataf for €150,000 and recently landed the prestigious H. H. The Emir's Trophy in Qatar.

Today's stand-out lots could include:
13) Le Choix; three-year-old who ran second on his jumps debut in a division of the Listed Prix Wild Monarch at Auteuil month.

16) Soleil De Sivola; successful in last year's Group 3 at Prix La Perichole at Auteuil.

33) Gebrey Chambertin; unraced three-year-old brother to Grands Crus.

2010 results: from 200 offered, 131 (65.5%) were sold for a total of €2,499,500 (+1%), average of €19,080 (-13%) and median of €10,000 (-17%).
