Plantation Stud reduces Araafa stud fee

IRISH 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes hero Araafa has had his fee reduced from £9,000 to £7,000 for the 2010 breeding season.

The son of Mull Of Kintyre, who hails from the family of Pivotal, is represented this year by his first crop of yearlings.

Several of those yearlings have reached large prices in the sale ring, including a filly out of the Woodman mare Lamballe who sold to Meridian International for €135,000 at Arqana, and a filly out of the Hector Protector mare Neutrina who was purchased by David Howard for €75,000 at the Goffs Million.

A Plantation Stud press release said: "We believe that [the fee] represents outstanding value for breeders and look forward to his first two-year-old runners next year.

"Araafa yearlings have been placed with some of the leading trainers in the country such as Sir Michael Stoute, Luca Cumani and Barry Hills."
