Plantation Stud expansion approved

DERMOT O'Rourke's Plantation Stud in Newmarket have won planning permission to extend their business from their current base at Snailwell to include a 379-acre site on the other side of the town near the village of Gazeley.

Plantation, which covers 200 acres and currently stands Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes winner Araafa, was formerly owned by Lord Howard de Walden and was bought by Irish businessman O'Rourke four years ago.

The Plantation Stud company also owns Silver Springs Stud in Kentucky as well as a smaller establishment in North Yorkshire.

The new stud, which is on arable land, is to have 66 boxes arranged in five separate yards as well as foaling facilities and staff accomodation.
