Juddmonte double in 2009 TBA awards

SIX 2009 Thoroughbred Breeders' Association award winners have been revealed, acknowledging achievements by British breeders and studs throughout the year.

In a change to the format of the awards, the remaining winners – including the TBA Silver Salver for special merit, the Langham Cup for small breeder of the year and the Duke of Devonshire award – will be announced at a dinner in Newmarket in June, following the TBA's annual general meeting.

Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms landed two of the TBA's most prestigious prizes – the Queen’s Silver Cup for being the leading British-based breeder by Flat earnings, and the BBA Silver Cigar Box for its resident Oasis Dream being the leading British-based stallion by Flat earnings.

Juddmonte secured the Queen’s Silver Cup for thesecond year in a row and for the sixth time since 2000. The operation bred 61 winners of 95 races who accrued £2,342,000 in prize-money, including Group 1 victories for Midday in the Nassau Stakes, Twice Over in the Champion Stakes and Special Duty in the Cheveley Park Stakes.

Progeny by Oasis Dream, who stands at Abdullah’s Banstead Manor Stud, earned £2.86 million, leading to their sire winning the BBA Silver Cigar Box.

Cheveley ParkStud resident Pivotal won the Barleythorpe Cup for the leading Flat sire in terms of individual winners for the third successibe year. The son of Polar Falcon was represented by78 individual scorers in 2009, including Epsom and Irish Oaks heroine Sariska.

Dubawi, who stands at Sheikh Mohammed’s Dalham Hall Stud, took the Tattersalls Silver Salver as the leading British-based first-season sire. The son of Dubai Millennium was Europe's leading freshman sire by number of individual winners and finished second to Kildangan Stud resident Shamardal in terms of progeny earnings.

Dual Ascot Gold Cup winner Kayf Tara received the Whitbread Silver Salver as leading active British-based jumps stallion by progeny earnings after a standout year when he was represented by Grade 2 winners Carruthers, Kornati Kid, Clan Tara and Tarablaze, while Mickley Stud-based Overbury collected the Horse & Hound Cup as leading British-based stallion by number of individual chase winners.
