Selkirk to come out of retirement in 2010

LANWADES Stud owner and general manager Kirsten Rausing, who announced today that globetrotting star Archipenko would commence stallion duties at the Newmarket operation next year, also had good news on the stud's stalwart sire Selkirk.

The 21-year-old son of Sharpen Up, who was temporarily withdrawn from stud duties earlier this year after suffering a sudden decline in fertility, will cover mares at Lanwades once again in 2010.

Rausing said: "Following encouraging veterinary examinations, Selkirk is coming out of his temporary retirement and will again be available to mare owners next year."

The champion miler in Europe at three and four, Selkirk has sired 73 individual Group winners, 11 of whom triumphed at the highest level, including this season's Premio Presidente della Repubblica winner Senlis.

Closer to home hisrecent standard bearers have been last year's York Stakes winner Pipedreamer and multiple Listed scorer Tranquil Tiger.

Selkirk will stand at Lanwades in 2010 alongside Hernando, whose progeny includes last year's Oaks heroine Look Here and this season's Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Casual Conquest, Derby winner Sir Percy, whose oldest crop are foals, Vita Rosa, who stood his first season this year, and With Approval.
