Plans made for US
Triple Crown hopefuls

AFTER the turn of the year, all eyes in America turn towards the Triple Crown as trainers plan campaigns for their Classic hopefuls.

Hollywood Futurity winner Pioneerof The Nile (Empire Maker) is set to reappear in the Grade 2 Robert B Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita on February 7, while impressive Gulftsream scorer Notonthesamepage (Catienus) will be targeted at the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth three weeks later.

Bob Baffert, who lost Midshipman to Godolphin after his Breeders' Cup victory, worked Pioneerof The Nile over 5f on Sunday when he clocked 58.40s under Garrett Gomez.

"He went a little faster than we wanted but good horses will do that," said Baffert. "It looked like he was galloping out there."

Notonthesamepage took Saturday's Spectacular Bid Stakes at Gulfstream by more than eight lengths on Saturday.

"The Fountain of Youth will be great for him at one mile," said trainer Wesley Ward. "That was a big run on Saturday."
