Byword continues fabulous Juddmonte run

In defeating last year's Champion Stakes winner Twice Over, Byword ironically prevented Observatory from becoming the third Banstead Manor Stud-based stallion of the day to sire a Royal Ascot Group winner.

Bred on the same Woodman cross as Italian Group 1 winner Sudan, Byword is the 14th Group/Grade 1 winner worldwide by Coolmore's veteran sire Peintre Celebre, the devastating Arc winner of 1997. He is also the second top level winner within two weeks out of Binche following recent JustA Game Stakes heroine Proviso.

Byword is a descendant of the notable producer Peace, herself the product of a Whitney family who became a huge influence on Juddmonte - among her descendants are Group/Grade 1 winners Wandesta, Zambezi Sun, Midships and Proviso.

Peace also appears as the fourth dam of tomorrow's Ribblesdale Stakes hopeful Principal Role.
