German Derby winner Laroche put down

LAROCHE, winner of the 1994 German Derby, was put down earlier this month due to an inoperable brain tumour.

The son of Nebos was owned and bred by Gestüt Hof Ittlingen, and was trained by Heinz Jentzsch. He made all the running under British-born jockey Stephen Eccles inGermany's blue riband to beat the David Loder-trained Overbury by three lengths.

He added to his tally the Group 2 Premio Ellington at four and the Group 2 Gerling Preis at five.

Laroche stood at Gestüt Auenquelle from 1998 until 2003, when he was sent to Mimon Stud in the Czech Republic. His best offspring were Listed winners Glad Hunter, Larofino and Russian Samba.
