Overdose dam produces Royal Applause colt

OVERDOSE'S return to form in a conditions race at Hoppegarten on Saunday capped a big 24 hours for his Wolverhampton-based breeders Graham and Di Robinson.

Theson of Starborough is one of six winners produced by the Robinsons' star broodmare Our Poppet, a 14-year-old daughter of Warning and St Simon Stakes winner Upend.

On Saturday night the mare produced her tenth foal, a colt by Royal Applause, at Whatton Manor Stud in Nottinghamshire where the Robinsons keep their two broodmares.

The foal is bred on the same Royal Applause-Warning cross as 2001 Richmond Stakes scorer Mister Cosmi.

"We're so excited for Our Poppet and her foals, especially as with Overdose back in the headlines she will be in vogue again," said Graham Robinson.

"We also have a very nice yearling colt by Exceed And Excel out of the mare and we are trying to make up our minds whether to send him to the Newmarket sales."

If that colt does make it to Tattersalls, he will be the first of Our Poppet's progeny to be offered at auction as a yearling since Overdose, who cost owner Zoltan Mikoczy just 2,000gns at the 2006 December sales.

The Robinsons have Our Poppet's four- and two-year-old daughters, Poppet's Treasure and Poppet's Passion, in training with Rupert Pritchard-Gordon in Chantilly. They also have horses with Reg Hollinshead.

Robinson added: "A lot of people have asked me why I don't base my mares in France so that I can take advantage of the country's breeders' premiums.

"But I don't want to upset themares by moving them and I'm getting a bit old to travel too far to visit them. And besides, Peter Player and his son Edward do a superb job of looking after the mares and the foals at Whatton Manor Stud, so we're very happy with where they are."

Our Poppet's next mating is with Aqlaam, the Prix du Moulin-winning son of Oasis Dream.
