Darley-bred Street Cry colt wins maiden

OSCAN, a Darley-bred Street Cry colt, won the opening 7f EBF maiden at Leicester today. Although the Mahmood Al Zarooni-colt was slow into his stride and hung a little right in the straight looking a little green, he went clear to win by an unchallenged length and quarter.

Out of Moyesii, a Diesis homebred daughter of Cherokee Rose (Dancing Rose), winner of the 1995 Prix Maurice de Gheest and Sprint Cup for Sheikh Mohammed, Oscan is a half-brother to theSheikh's St Leger and Hong Kong Vase (G1) winner Mastery, a colt by Sulamani.

The first three horses were all homebreds - second placed was Verse Of Love, a gelding by Byron, while Uprise, a Cheveley Park-bred Pivotal colt out of Princess Margaret (G3) and Lowther Stakes (G3) winner Soar, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, was third.

A colt by Byron went one better in the nursery at Lingfield - the Richard Hannon-trained Poetic Lord, a half-brother to the Group 3 winner Millennium Force (Bin Ajwaad) coming home a length to the good of Long Lost Love (Langfuhr).
