Impressive first
winner for Vital Equine

ORTEA turned in an impressiveperformance in the 5f maiden at Nottingham to become the first winner for 2,000 Guineas runner-up Vital Equine.

The David Evans-trained colt was making his second start following an encouraging fourth at Newcastle 15 days before.

Ortea was bred by Bearstone Stud, which stood Vital Equine for a single season following a career in which he won three races for Eoghan O'Neill, including the Group 2 Champagne Stakes. He also ran second in the 2,000 Guineas.

The son of Danetime stood his season at Bearstone for £6,000, after which he shuttled to Touchstone Farm in Australia. Although originally scheduled to return to Bearstone, Vital Equine remained in Australia and stood the past season for A$6,600.

A £20,000 purchase at the DBS Premier Yearling Sale by Evans, Ortea is the second foal out of Artistic, a Noverre daughter of the Group 3-placed Shmoose.
