Oratorio colt tops Magic Millions Perth day two

A HALF-BROTHER to Australian Listed winner Metallic Storm by Australian Stravinsky stallion Oratorio topped Thursday's second session of the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

The colt, consigned by Torby Park as agent for Mungrup Stud Clients, was sold to leading trainer David Harrison for A$180,000 (£112,000, €132,600).

Harrison said: "He's a nice, big and strong Oratorio colt. He's a lot like [stable star] Waratah's Secret.

"He was my pick of the sale and I'm delighted to have been able to buy him."

The average of A$44,618 (£27,780, €32,900) for the first two Perth sale sessions is running above the figure of A$41,547 for the comparative sessions period last year.

However, turnover of A$7,942,000 (£4,943,000, €5,849,000) for the two days is running below last year's total of A$8,351,000.

The clearance rate has dropped most dramatically, from 77 per cent last year to 68 per cent.

Magic Millions' acting managing director David Chester said: "There was some strong competition on a number of lots and that is nice to see - hopefully there is more of that to come.

"Obviously it would be nice to see the clearance rate higher. Hopefully that can climb during tomorrow's third session."

The third session of the auction begins at 3pm West Australian time on Friday.
