Apt Haydock victory for daughter of Ameerat

THE mile juvenile fillies maiden at Haydock on Saturday provided an apt winner in Oojooba, who handled the good to soft ground better than others to score by a two and a half lengths for Roger Varian.

The daughter of Monsun is the fourth winner - and potentially the best -out of Ameerat, who provided Varian's former boss, Michael Jarvis, with a first Classic victory when successful in the 1,000 Guineas in 2001. Jarvis died earlier this week at the age of 73.

Bred by Darley, Oojooba's winning half-siblings include Kawssaj (Dubawi), who broke his maiden for Varian in August, and Godolphin's Sowalym (Tobougg).

Ameerat, a Mark Of Esteem half-sister to the Listed-placed Walmooh and to the dam of Listed winner Polly's Mark, has a yearling filly by New Approach.
