OBS rebounds with increases at open session

A SOFT opening to the OBS Fall Mixed Sale in Florida was followed on Wednesday by a relatively buoyant open sessionat which gains of 28 per cent or greater were recorded across-the-board.

The day saw 185 horses sell for a total of $1,131,000, up 30 per cent from 2010. The average rose 28 per cent to $6,114 while the median increased 37 per cent to$3,700.

A colt by leading young sire Congrats commanded the highest price of the day, selling for $47,000 to Fall Bloodstock. Consigned by Summerfield, the Florida-bred is a half-brother to Listed winner Ribo Bobo and out of the winning Private Terms mare Private From Party.

However, results from the second session were not enough to prevent the two-day sale from recording decreases overall.

A 34 per cent decrease in the number of horses catalogued contributed to a 35 per cent drop in aggregate to $2,254,600 for 269 horses sold. The average dropped 16 per cent to $8,381 while the median remained the same at $5,000.
