Heathly gains across-the-board at OBS August

A SOLID renewal of the OBS August Yearling Sale in Ocala, Florida, concluded on Wednesday with an open session which recorded gains across-the-board.

In all, 212 yearlings were sold for a total of $2,635,200, up 12.4 per cent from 2010 when 246 yearlings were sold.

The average rose 30 per cent to $12,430 while the median jumped38.5 per cent to $9,000.

A son of Kentucky sire Lemon Drop Kind provided his owner Virgilio Lopez with a major pinhooking coup when selling for a session-topping $105,000 to Sallusto/Albina. The colt, who is out of stakes winner Secondary School and was consigned by Beth Bayer, had cost Lopez just $13,000 at the Keeneland November Sale.

A son of second crop sire Political Force consigned by Select Sales was another to break the six-figure barrier, selling to Mersad Metanovic and Jeff Bonde for $100,000. He is out of Pine Hill, a Siphon half-sister to graded stakes-placed Merger.
